Held in the fall, the team is made up of 4th, 5th and 6th graders. The team travels to surrounding communities as well as hosting home games held on the high school football field. Volunteer parents coach the players. Cost per child is arount $20 with additional cost for provision of helmets. |

Practice begins in April with inter-league play held during the months of May, June and July at the city recreation complex for children ages 5 to 16. Boys and girls age five and six play t-ball. Seven and eight year old play coach-pitch with the boys playing baseball and the girls moving onto softball teams. Parent volunteers coach the teams. Selected teams compete in area tournaments. Cost is approximately $20 per child. A parent organization/board manages the program with elected officers. |

The wrestling season begins in November with practices being held 3 times a week at the high school field house. Participation is open to children in first through 8th grades. Cost of registration is $20 with a singlet being provided. Wrestlers participate in several local, regional and state competitions which have varying cost. Volunteer parents provide coaching. A parent organization/board managers the program with elected officers. |

OPTIMIST BASKETBALL Bill Eich 527-4875 |
Boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 are invited to participate. High school coaches, parent volunteers and senior players coach the participants. The program consists of practices 2 times a week on the fundamental skills of basketball. The program starts in January for kids in grades 3-6. 7th and 8th graders begin play at the conclusion of their school season. The program concludes March 1st. Inter-league games are held as well as some games with other surrounding schools. Registration forms can be picked up at all of the community schools. Cost is $10. |

This program is for all ages to age 18. Participants must be able to swim at least one length of the pool. Competitions are held throughout the summer with Glenwood hosting one meet. Practice is held daily in the summer at the Glenwood pool, usually in the evenings. Cost is minimal. |

Lessons are held in June and July at the Glenwood City Pool in the mornings. An infant, toddler, pre-school session is held for children ages 6 months to 6 years. Regular instruction begins at age 7. Levels of instruction range from beginners to advance to lifeguarding (must be age 15). Water Safety Instructor classes are held for those who are age 17. Instruction is provided by WSI and swim aids. Transportation is provided for youth that live in the Silver City, Mineola and Pacific Junction area. The track team and cross country team is open to both boys and girls ages up to 18 with participation in AAU and USA Track and field meets throughout the state. In 1998 the club hosted the state AAU cross-country championships. The track team practices 3 times per week in the summer at the Glenwood High School track. Fees include membership in AAU and USA T/F plus event cost. |

Recreational league play is held in both the spring and fall with registration of approximately $28 required for each season plus $5 shirt charge each year. Divisions are available from under 6 to under 16. The club also sanctions competitive teams that play in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area. Games are held at the Glenwood Soccer fields. The club is organized and run by volunteer parental support with monthly board meetings held once a month. |

OPTIMIST GOLF LEAGUE Glenwood Golf Course 527-9798 |
The league begins in June and runs for 6 weeks on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to noon, with 2 age groups. Adult golfers provide instruction. Registration of $2 for non-members can be paid on a weekly basis. There is no cost for youth with golf course memberships. A tournament is held at the conclusion of the season. |

Fall league play begins in September and runs through December. Spring league begins in January running through March. Instructional support is given for beginning bowlers. League is held on Saturday mornings with over 11 bowling at 9:00 am and under 11 bowling at 11:00 am. The cost includes an annual sanction fee of $7.50 and then $4.00 per week. In addition to local competition and awards, bowlers participate in parent/child and Coca-Cola tournaments with local, regional and state competitions. |
